Michelle Fasolino

My collection is inspired by my personal experience of ambient sound during my commute to and from Ara, and a connection has been made with feeling exposed, vulnerable and outside my comfort zone. These concepts are communicated through revealing both the body of the wearer and the construction of the garment, and are applied through features such as exposed pocket bags, darts, facings and open seams. Fringing is also included in many of the garments and represents threads, which expose the basic element of fabric. The simple palette of black includes satin-bound edges to contrast with the matte texture of the garment fabric and acts to highlight stylistic features. The silhouettes are inspired by classic and vintage garments, which reference my original interest and beginnings in fashion.

Looking to the future, I hope to continue to expand my work with textile waste and waste minimisation techniques which I explored as part of my work placement. Working in a sustainable way is an important element of my designs and I look forward to focusing on this approach.
